Platinum powder, also traded as platinum black, is a fine dark powder of the metal with a purity of 99.95%, produced by reducing refined platinum salts. The very high surface area makes it an active catalyst for chemical processes, fuel cells and sensors, and it is also used to coat solid platinum electrodes for electrochemistry.
